The Arctic Parka was originally designed in 1972 for workers on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, where temperatures dropped to minus 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The modern version retains the essential design: a Ramar cloth shell that blocks wind while remaining breathable, 650-fill goose down insulation, and a coyote fur ruff on the hood that breaks wind across the face in extreme conditions.
The parka extends past the hips with a fishtail hem that shields the lower body, and the two-way front zipper allows seated mobility. The Velcro storm flap, internal knit cuffs, and fleece-lined hand pockets are functional details that have survived five decades of design refinement because they work.
